Growing up Snoop Dogg was born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. in Inglewood, California, to Vernall Varnado and Beverly Broadus (née Tate). Vernall, who was a Vietnam veteran singer and mail carrier, Calvin although was named after his stepfather, Calvin Cordozar Broadus Sr. As a boy, his parents nicknamed him “Snoopy” due to his love and likeness of the cartoon character from Peanuts who always embodied giving back.
Recently, Snoop Dogg decided to do something nice for his community. He lives in the town of Inglewood, California. This year, the rapper has decided to spread some holiday cheer by giving to people in need turkeys.
At one of the annual events, Snoop Dogg took pictures with more than 800 people. The city of Inglewood even set up a tent for seniors to sit in while they waited. As soon as Snoop Dogg arrived, he immediately went over the tent to meet everyone.
Snoop Dogg’s plan is to keep returning each year to hand out turkeys and Thanksgiving dishes. Because of his generosity, more than a thousand people each year get to celebrate a true Thanksgiving with their families.
Many of those families already struggled to put food on their table each day. The idea of spending so much money on an expensive turkey seemed impossible. Thanks to Snoop Dogg, that impossible dream is now a reality.
Snoop Dogg has even advocated that those looking to give back small or big should start with local events in their community such as his turkey giveaway. Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts agreed during a joint statement with Snoop during the event.
“To be able to come back and give back when you (are) blessed, to put smiles on people’s faces, to be able to feed people … I love to help because I was given opportunity,” Snoop said. “That’s the gift that keeps on giving.”
